ADULT CHICKENPOX

Diary of an Adult Chickenpox Sufferer

DAY 8

WARNING

Some pictures may make your skin crawl!!

If you are eating your dinner I suggest you put it down. Close-up of spot on hand starting to harden and heal

11.00 am Wednesday Morning- A disturbed night again, bed sweats and slightly uncomforatable - took a couple of anti-histamine tablets before going to bed at 01:30 and they did not seem as efffective as previouse. Have drunk loads of water as feel a little dehydratred. Lemon juice with ice is a wonderfull drink. Was also concerned about some work issues which stopped me sleeping and I hate being off work whilst sick. This is the first work absence for sickness in over 4 years and I feel reallly disappointed. Wife quite rightly has had a right go at me for worrying about such things.

I think the last of the spots came up overnight. I have some small ones on my fingers and base of my feet. Annoyingly I have about 3 on my gums to the front.

TOP TIP - If you have spots on your Gums, do not eat ready salted crisps. It is like eating glass and then having salt rubbed into the wound. I won't be doing that again in a hurry.

16.00 pm Wednesday Afternoon -
Have spent most of the day on the phone - e-mail sorting out work problems that I need to hand over. This has been done and my colleagues have been fantastic. I think they want me to go away now in the nicest possible sense and get better. Dealing with this has been difficult. I feel very tired. When feeling pressured I break out into hot sweats and this has caused irritation back to my scalp which had previously died down. I deal with pressure regularly at work and thrive on it, however, with Chickenpox it just does not mix.

Top Tip - Try and put all work issues aside, yes easier said than done for many, but at least try and get it all handed over in the first instance and then rest. No point in going backwards. Obviously, if you are self employed, I cannot see anyway in which you are going to be able to do manaul work, or any work requiring concentration for a sustained period. Believe me, your body just ain't going to be up to it.

Appetite is still not great. Had a sandwich today but still drinking plenty of fluids. I have a craving for iced lemon juice. (Happy to market any particular brand HERE at extortionate advertising costs). Sense of humor starting to return.

Ventured outside for the first time this afternoon for a walk around the back garden. This was soothing and was good to get some clean air. Its funny but with Chickenpox you feel that you can almost taste the bad air. I will probably remain infectious for the next couple of days and then things really will move on.

It is a shame that it is not Holloween. I would have had such a laugh as the kids came to my door trick or treating. "No its not make up, and have a dose of this!!''

As the spots start to scab, there is increased itching. I am going to take a cool bath now to wash my hair thoroughly and to calm the skin. Will not 'Soak' too long as I don't want ot soften the spots. I was advised that washing hair is important to reduce infection of the scalp. Would not recommend any perfumed hairwash products that may irritate the scalp. Water is best.

1930pm Wednesday
Okay - time for the daily pics - I have tried to make these a little more interesting so that you can actually see the changes yourselves.

Hoooray - At last I can manage a smile   Close up of Forehead
Spots starting to burst and scab

Chest spots beginning to rise and scab.

Thats all for today folks, back tomorrow. Going to watch a DVD and then take a couple of sleeping pills as per the prescribed dose. Still need them as itching has returned slightly.
