Sunday morning 04:00 hrs

No chance of sleep. I went to bed at 10 pm but got back up at midnight. My scalp is raw. Believe it or not I have been sitting downstairs watching early morning television with a bag of frozen peas strapped to my head. Just to cool it down. I tried bed again at 0300 hrs but now back downstairs to write this diary.

I am very aware that lack of sleep could become an issue in terms of keeping moral and a positive attitude. However, I know that compared to many illnesses or injury this bout of chickenpox is a walk in the park. That has never been far from my thoughts. However, even though in a few days things will start looking up, it is becoming nastier than I had anticipated.

Perhaps you are reading this yourself during the early hours with suffering a similar experience? If so - feel free to submit your thoughts to me on the Forum.

0730 Sunday Morning - I think I dozed for about 45 mins but this morning and I am feeling more optimistic. Getting through the night, albeit without any sleep, was a milestone. On a positive note, there does not appear to be many more spots on my back and front, but my arms are now coming up. Face is a mess, somewhere in the region of 200-300 spots alone.

What I don't know is whether yesterday or today will be the worst day. If today brings some relief, then I know that I am getting through it. I have no idea what happens when the spots errupt and scab, will this be uncomforatable? Time will tell.

I have decided that this morning I will put some clippers to my head and try and get rid of some of the hair. For the scalp to cool down, I think it needs some air to it. Also, it would be easier to get cream to the blistered areas. The cream is not great and has limited effect on other parts of my body.

13.00 hrs Sunday Afternnon Pictures just taken as below and and top of page.

Crater Face   Short hair, updating site.

You will now notice the military style haircut whaich has brought quick relief to my scalp. I think that this has allowed the air to circulate and keep the scalp temperature down. Very itchy. New spots on arms and upper legs Camamile lotion does help to dry out the areas and is cool and soothing although by no means does the job. Decided that tomorrow I must contact the Doctor to get certificated off work and to see if i can get some sleeping tablets. Lack of sleep is now becoming an issues and I am very concerned about tonight.

17.00 hrs Sunday Afternnon quick diary entry
Psychologically, I want to get to the stage when new spots stop arriving. Then I can feel that a stage has been completed. I still have an appetite but am forcing food down a little. Absolutely no alcohol. The thought of having to deal with this if a little drunk would be a nightmare. I feel that I need to be focussed, set little milestones in reaching specific times of the day and then get through them.
